Let\’s get real, you are never going to learn how to play the violin. But when it comes to business, reflecting on what\’s been and then setting out your goals for the coming year is not only achievable and desirable but hugely satisfying.
There isn\’t a better time for a fresh start, so here are my FIVE attainable turning-over-new-leaf tips for taking your business to the next level. Forget the darn fiddle, this is a list that will always be sweet music to your ears.
HONE YOUR USP
What is your Unique Selling Proposition? To be successful you need to know what makes you different from the competition. Too many people are copy cats, so differentiate yourself to compete well in a busy market. Write down your USP – one or two sentences at most – and refer to it often. Work it into all you do, every day and in every way.
CREATE MORE, COPY LESS
It\’s easy to cut and paste a link to someone else\’s work but your online content will be more compelling if you can create your own ideas. Original content can be tailored to fit your USP and company messaging, will increase your SEO, and clients will be more inclined to spend time on your site. Get brainstorming and make it a habit.
SAY LESS BUT SAY IT CLEARLY
Learn to edit yourself and get rid of the fine print. Whatever you\’re doing, do it in plain English; remove the gobbledegook, the jargon and the crap legalize from your copy. Your customer is an intelligent human being, please treat them as such. They in turn will be grateful and chose to do business with you over others.
GIVE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA FREELY
Stop thinking of social media as giving away your expertise for nothing. Get over it. Your social media will reap you real results although it may not immediately be apparent, so have a plan, know what your story lines are and be consistent with your messaging. Dance and dance freely – with social media you are playing the long game but to win, you need to commit, create, circulate and stay the course.
